Job summary

This is a post (10PA) for an old age specialist psychiatrist to provide medical input into the community Treatment team/memory service located in North Cumbria. The post holder is expected to have total DCC of 8 pa and a 2 pa for SPA.

Post holder will work along with multidisciplinary team covering the older people's population in North-Cumbria.

The post holder will provide senior clinical expertise in the assessment and treatment of individuals with complex mental health problems and what are termed as at-risk mental states.

The Older Adults Community Treatment team provide assessment and treatment service, experiencing difficulty with their mental health based on episodic model of care. It is an ageless service, seeing patients with cognitive problems of any age. Those with functional psychiatric disorders are accepted into the service if they have age related needs of older people, or significant frailty.

Post holder will be expected to work closely with each other as well as local agencies such as the Crisis Team, and Inpatient services to ensure safe and timely transitions when required.

Main duties of the job

It is envisaged that the post holder will work ten programmed activities. Following appointment there will be a meeting at no later than three months with the clinical manager to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder. The overall split of the programmed activities is 8 activities to be devoted to direct clinical care and 2 pa to supporting professional activities (as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendation). The timetable is indicative only. A formal job plan will be agreed between the post holder and assistant medical director or clinical manager three months after commencing the post and at least annually thereafter.

  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Full Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered before appointment) with a licence to practice
  • Completed a minimum of 12 years' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades
