A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join Northumberland CYPS covering the Learning Disability and PBS pathway as well as our Neurodevelopmental Pathway. The postholder will join a great team of doctors and other professionals passionate about the care of children and young people in Northumberland. They will work as part of an effective multidisciplinary team and supporting young people with intellectual disability from around the area both in the clinic and school setting

Main duties of the job

Leading the multidisciplinary Team in clinical decisions and service development

Overseeing treatment of children with learning disability as well as forming part of a neurodevelopmental pathway

Offering diagnostic and treatment decisions in complex cases

Offering supervision to junior colleagues

Furthering their own professional development

Leading on audit processes

Being part of an on call rota

Job description

Job responsibilities

Applicants should be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the point of interview. Candidates should be suitably qualified, including eligibility for Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status.

It is envisaged that the post holder will work 10 programmed activities over five days. Following appointment there will be a meeting at no later than three months with the clinical manager to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder. The overall split of the programmed activities is 7.5 activities to be devoted to direct clinical care and 2-2.5 to supporting professional activities (as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendation). The timetable is indicative only. A formal job plan will be agreed between the post holder and associate medical director or clinical manager three months after commencing the post and at least annually thereafter.

Programmed activities allocated to direct clinical care, to include:

  • Regular planned out-patient clinics, school clinics, or within specialist residential placements.
  • Complex case discussions where patients vulnerable to or in crisis are discussed. These have been shown to be effective in mobilising effective local support and preventing admissions to hospitals
  • Attendance to Multidisciplinary Team meetings
  • Support to and supervision of trainees, specialty doctors and NMPs
  • Liaison with Consultants from inpatient wards and other mental health teams
  • Administration to support these clinical activities
  • On call duties and emergency work
