Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist, or Psychological Therapist to be part of a psychological intervention team offering a range of therapies to those presenting with significant mental health difficulties as part of the Gateshead West Community Treatment Team (CTT) a multi-disciplinary service.
The post sits within the non-psychosis pathway, offering interventions for service users with Complex Emotional Difficulties (including Personality Disorder) and other presentations (OCD, PTSD, Complex trauma, Severe Depression and Anxieties). We work alongside a range of specialist NHS and third sector services, such as for those presenting with an eating disorder, or First Episode Psychosis.
The successful candidate will be based at Dryden road clinic, Gateshead, within an established psychology service. The team is made up of experienced psychologists offering a range of evidence- based psychological interventions, including CBT, EMDR, DBT, SCM and CAT. You will be working alongside committed psychological therapies staff, supported by a dedicated and experienced MDT, with supportive, strong and progressive leadership from senior psychological staff.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role involve providing one to one assessments, therapy, group interventions. Other tasks such as supervision and training can be considered depending on need and experience. You will receive regular supervision and the chance to engage in ongoing continuing professional development.

Essential
- An Honours Degree in Psychology recognised for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society, or RMN, OT or Social Worker qualification or An Honours degree level qualification in a mental health field, subject to specific suitability check. HCPC registered practitioner psychologist, or registered member of an appropriate professional body e.g., BABCP registered CBT practitioner Or Registered member of an appropriate psychological professional body e.g., BABCP registered
- Post-graduate qualifications in psychological assessment and psychological therapy appropriate to the designated pathway (e.g., Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, Post-graduate diploma in CBT, IAPT High Intensity CBT diploma, EMDR practitioner level qualification).
Experience
Essential
- Experience in psychological therapy in the field of the designated speciality, including assessment, formulation and interventions, drawing on a evidence based psychological models and knowledge, and including work with service users with mild, moderate, severe and enduring mental health problems.
- Experience of model-specific psychological assessment of clients across a wide range of care settings, and collaborative work with other professional groups, e.g., medical, nursing, social work.
Desirable
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
- Experience of the application of psychological therapy in different cultural contexts
