Job summary
This is a Consultant post in generic CYPS, based in Monkwearmouth Hospital. It is arising from a vacancy due to one of the Consultants moving to a different country.
The post will involve providing Consultant input and leadership into Neurodevelopmental disorders diagnostics such as ADHD and Autism assessment and management as well mental health disorders in Child and adolescents, liaison with our inpatient CYPS services in Ferndene Unit, joint working and scaffolding the CYPS multidisciplinary team members and Junior doctors in the service alongside the other Consultants.
The precise nature of the post will be discussed, jointly and mutually agreed with the candidate at the time of the appointment giving consideration to the service need as well as the candidate's interest and developmental needs.
As such, the emphasis is on being a member of a clinical network within the service rather than the traditional, geographically-based "clinical team" model.

Main duties of the job
The service has configured to meet the mental health needs of children and young people between 0 - 18 years across South Tyneside and Sunderland.
The post holder will be expected to be involved in formulation of mental health difficulties, supporting the team with the diagnosis and developing a management plan.
The post holder will be expected in supporting the team with risk assessments and devising a risk management plan.
The post holder will be expected to work with primary care colleagues.
The post holder will be expected to make decisions regarding the appropriate time of adding pharmacological interventions to treatment package.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with our colleagues working in social care, attend strategy meetings when appropriate.

- Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT
- Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983

- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
