Job summary

Band 6 - Community Practitioner - Forensic Community Service

Some exciting opportunities have arisen to be part of the Forensic Community Service.

We are actively seeking to recruit an experienced male Registered Mental Health Nurse due to occupational requirements of the role which includes meeting the cultural, ethnic and risk needs of some of our service users. You will be supporting the service as one of our Community Practitioners.

The Forensic Community Service is a specialist community team that has a fully embedded MDT - so the successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team that includes Medical, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Social Work, Speech and Language Therapy and Psychology colleagues.

We are a regional service which provides care and treatment for adults (both male and female) who have a history of offending and/or pose a risk to others.

Our service users have come into contact with the criminal justice system and have been within the secure in-patient pathway. We provide Care Co-ordination for patients across the region, along with providing in-reach to patients within secure in-patient services across the Provider Collaborative footprint.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage their own caseload carrying out interventions. They will work closely with the other members of the team, supporting patients through their recovery. We hope to recruit new staff who are dynamic in their approach and wish to be part of an exciting service. Ongoing training around specialist risk assessment tools will be offered to the successful candidates.

Desirable attributes for the successful candidate include previous knowledge or working with offenders and patients with complex needs. A good and thorough understanding of risk assessment is vital when working with our patient group.

About us

We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.

The service currently operates during working hours of Monday to Friday (0900-1700).

The team covers the whole of the Cumbria Northumberland Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust footprint. There is also some working into Tees, Esk & Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust as part of the Provider Collaborative.
