Activities Facilitator

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Activities Facilitator to join the Social Therapeutic and Recreational Rehabilitation Team (STARRT) which works onto the inpatient wards at Walkergate Park, Centre for Neurorehabilitation and Neuropsychiatry.

The post involves working closely with service users who present with a broad range of complex and varied neurological conditions, including acquired brain injury and progressive neurological conditions.

STARRT aims to maximise service users' ability to participate in leisure and social activities that are important and meaningful to them, both during their stay at Walkergate Park and beyond discharge. Goals for intervention are collaboratively set with service users and with the support of their Occupational Therapist.

STARRT will then work with the service user to create individualised and varied social and leisure opportunities on the ward and in the community to enhance their rehabilitation journey. Throughout their intervention, STARRT will continue to work in close collaboration with the wider treating team and Occupational Therapy in particular to work towards service users' goals.

The post provides an opportunity to work as part of a highly specialist team in a UKROC level 1 service. The post holder will be supported by the wider Occupational Therapy Team through supervision and facilitating ongoing learning.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the delivery of care to service users who have a variety of needs, diverse presentations and a range of physical health, neurological conditions, mental health conditions, cognitive and/or learning disabilities under the direction of a registered practitioner. The overall responsibility for the service user remains, at all times with the registered practitioner.

To deliver interventions under supervision and guidance from a registeredpractitioner and as a lone worker where appropriate undertaking delegated tasks within competency boundaries.

To actively promote service users' health and wellbeing, by planning anddelivering therapeutic interventions to promote leisure, social and occupational activities, monitoring of physical health, psychological interventions as appropriate to the clinical area. Therefore, providing effective person-centred care.

To actively engage with supervision and appraisal process as identified in Trust policy.

To provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.
