Job summary

The Kolvin Service is a specialist regional community adolescent forensic service for young people under the age of 18 years who have been assessed as an identified risk of causing significant harm to others or themselves.

The department is based at St Nicholas House, St Nicholas Hospital, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, and the team consists of psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and psychology staff. We provide community FCAMHS and outpatient services in addition to providing adolescent forensic mental health services to two Secure Children's Homes in the North East.

The Kolvin Service collaboratively leads on the implementation of the SECURE STAIRS framework at Aycliffe Secure Centre and Kyloe House SCHs. The SECURE STAIRS framework represents a shift in focus within the secure estate from interventions focussed solely for young people, to interventions focussed on the whole system

Main duties of the job

The post holder's main duties are to assist qualified psychologists in the delivery of psychological provision; providing psychological assessment and specific interventions under the supervision of a qualified psychologist. The post holder will assist the MDT in research developments under the supervision of a senior psychologist grade.

Additional skills and competencies and duties required to fulfil the role.

Clinically related service delivery, administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

  • Eligibility for graduate membership of British Psychological Society.

  • Post Graduate Qualifications

  • Database and statistics Competence

  • Competence in managing research databases and statistics
  • Paid or unpaid work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities.
