Job summary
This is a full time inpatient post at Rose Lodge which is a Learning Disability Assessment and Treatment Unit for 3 month fixed term. The service is currently undergoing re-design and the details will be shared with the successful candidate. Patients often stay for several months and have all of their health needs addressed whilst in hospital. Patients present with a learning disability, mental health problems, associated complex needs and challenging behaviours. The staff work within a Multidisciplinary Team approach utilising a bio-psycho-social approach; that aims to address the patient needs in a holistic ways, within a positive behaviour support model. The configuration of the inpatient beds is currently under review.
Rose Lodge has inpatients admissions from across the Trust covering Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside, Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland. The unit has an average admission rate of 10-12 admissions per year with the average length of stay being about 300 days.
The clinical MDT consists of nurses, nurse consultant, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and consultant psychiatrists specialising in learning disability psychiatry. There are also other professionals from external teams who work into the wards for people they are involved with, including community nurses, social workers and advocates. There is a full-time Specialty Doctor attached to this unit (advertised post).
Main duties of the job
You will be looking after mental and physical health of patients on the unit under the supervision of the consultant psychiatrist. You will be an integral part of the ward leadership team and attend MDT meetings. You will provide valuable input into developing assessment and treatment plans for the patients
