Summary of Post:

We are seeking a Fixed-Term Assistant Psychologist to work as part of the Older People's Psychology Team. The following are essential to the post:

Upper 2nd class honours degree, or higher, in psychology.

Eligibility for graduate membership of British Psychological Society.

Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or disabilities.

Knowledge of evidence-based practice

High level of communication skills (written and oral), including an ability to communicate and work in highly emotive circumstances, and to be able to communicate with families, carers and other professional staff.

Able to manage own stress in difficult conditions and to identify when additional personal support may be necessary.

The following are desirable for the post:

Previous experience working with older people, either within a mental health setting or in another relevant area.

A desire to explore a career in Psychology.

Experience of database management and clinical audit

Main duties of the job

You will be a valued member of our team offering (under supervision) psychological assessment, formulation and intervention.

You will contribute to the governance of the department, including research and audit opportunities, and to the wider Older Persons' Mental Health Service, attending MDTs and service-wide meetings where appropriate.

Thepost holder will be working as part of the psychology department in the Older Persons' Community Mental Health Team, which is based at Bensham Hospital in Gateshead. The post-holder will work under the supervision of a qualified psychologist and alongside a multidisciplinary team comprising of Consultant Psychiatrists, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, a Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioner and Mental Health Support Workers.
