Job summary

An exciting opportunity for the role of Assistant Psychologist has arose within Sunderland Psychiatric Liaison Team based at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

The successful candidate will assist qualified psychologists in the delivery ofpsychological services in the pathway; providing psychological assessment andspecific interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, workingindependently within the limits agreed with the psychology supervisor.The post holder will produces assessment and intervention professional reports and support the service in the delivery of training initiatives.The post holder will utilise research skills for audit, literature reviews, servicedevelopment and other research initiatives within the pathway or wider service.

Main duties of the job

As an Assistant Psychologist the key elements of your role will be to:

The post holder's main duties are to assist qualified psychologists in the delivery of psychological services in the pathway; providing psychological assessment and specific interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, working independently within the limits agreed with the psychology supervisor.The post holder will produces assessment and intervention professional reports.The post holder will support the service in the delivery of training initiatives.The post holder will utilise research skills for audit, literature reviews, servicedevelopment and other research initiatives within the pathway or wider service.The post holder a Senior, Principal or Consultant Clinical Psychologist.The post holder will perform delegated tasks within guidelines provided by thesupervisor, will receive regular clinical supervision and will seek additionalsupervision and guidance where required.The post-holder will provide compassionate care that is based on empathy ,kindness, respect and dignity.

  • Psychology Degree 2:1 or Higher
  • Research and Audit Skills
  • Competence in managing research databases and statistics

Desirable

  • Post Graduate Qualifications
  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.

Experience

Essential

  • Database and statistics Competence
  • Paid or unpaid work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities.
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice

Desirable

  • Experience of paid work in direct care provision.
  • Experience in mental health setting
  • Experience of psychometric test administration and interpretation.
  • Experience of providing individual or group interventions.

Communication Skills

Essential

  • Ability to communicate accurately orally and in written word
  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems and other disabilities.
  • Computer literate, including use of databases & data analysis, e.g. SPSS for Windows.
  • An understanding of psychology applied to healthcare.
  • Demonstrates graduate level knowledge and experience of research and research methodology.

  • A high standard of report writing.
