Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, dynamic and committed qualified mental health nurses to work in the Psychiatric Liaison Team (PLT) based at NSECH hospital at Cramlington. Adult person pathway.
We are seeking to appoint highly motivated Band 6 staff within the adult psychiatry pathway as part of the 24/7 service.
This is an interesting and varied role, working in fast-paced environments including Accident and Emergency (ED) and in-patient wards across the footfall of the acute trust - NSECH and other base sites.
Main duties of the job
Responsibility for undertaking biopsychosocial assessment and risk assessment, delivering brief interventions, liaising with other services and offering the acute Trust staff expert advice, as well as giving ongoing support and treatment to patients, as required.
The successful candidate will be joining a team with well-established links with the acute trusts, community and will be expected to contribute to the ongoing development of the service.
We have a Clinical Reference Group for all CNTW Liaison Teams with biweekly teaching, dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist for adult pathway, Nurse Consultant, psychology, pharmacy and Clinical Leadership team.
The service operates 24/7 and there is an expectation that the successful person will work shifts/bank holidays/nightshifts.
We have access to the acute site facilities including a GYM and health and wellbeing hub.
In Liaison psychiatry, staff undertake comprehensive biopsychosocial mental health assessments alongside robust risk and safety planning assessments.
When patients remain in the acute hospital for medical treatment, we provide liaison interventions which may include brief psychological interventions.
Liaising with professional's involved in the person's care including family and carers, acute care staff, social care and other services.
We have a supportive MDT each day and work very closely with acute colleagues (emergency department, medical admissions, alcohol specialist nurses and safeguarding team).

NSECH PLT is a 24-hour service that provides timely, consistent, and high-quality assessment, mental health interventions and recommendations/onward signposting for the management of patients.
Presenting with acts of self-harm and/or co-morbid physical and mental health needs in general hospital settings.
In partnership with acute trust colleagues and other professionals when indicated, to manage the interface with patient's physical health needs ensuring all patients admitted to the acute hospital trust are placed on the most appropriate pathway of care and achieve the best outcomes.
