Job summary

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to work as an Occupational Therapist Band 5/6, this is a development role over a period of approx 2 years to progress through the completion of a competency framework to a Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the Central Adult Mental Health Community Treatment Team based in Ashington Northumberland.

This is an exciting opportunity to embedyour core skills as an Occupational Therapist within a supportive experienced team. We are committed to providing the best possible care and support to people in the community to develop skills to be able to engage with meaningful occupation that enhances their life. We use the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) to structure assessment, 1:1's and group interventions.

We are looking for a highly motivated person who is friendly and confident to work both autonomously and as part of a team. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure, seek guidance when needed and contribute to the development of the Occupational Therapy and wider team.

It will be useful to have awareness of how mental health issues impact on people's daily lives and how to record and manage risks associated with working in a mental health setting. You will have the chance to work alongside our multi-disciplinary team as well as with a variety of external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for the people in our community.

Main duties of the job

To provide occupational therapy service to service users who have a variety of occupational therapy needs, diverse presentations and a range of mental health conditions under the direction of a more experienced member of Occupational Therapy staff.

To manage and provide ongoing assessment and intervention for service users.

To consider carer needs and ensure carer and family are involved in intervention planning where appropriate.

To develop and deliver evidenced based Occupational Therapy interventions in collaboration with service users and carers where appropriate.

The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that high quality, individualised care is delivered which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery and wellbeing and maximising independence.

To provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.

To provide clinical supervision to staff members as delegated by Clinical Lead.

To incorporate a client centred philosophy into clinical practice and client centred collaborative care.
