An exciting opportunity has arisen with in the neurological rehabilitation outpatient department for an enthusiastic, dynamic and compassionate clinician.
This is a development post progressing from Band 5 to Band 6 on completion of training and achieving competencies in the management of Dystonia. (Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder which affects 100,000 people in the UK).
You will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing the highest standard of care, supporting the outpatient clinics whilst developing skills to become a dystonia practitioner.
With support, you will develop the competencies to be an autonomous practitioner in the assessment, treatment and administration of Botulinum Toxin injections for patients who have been diagnosed with Dystonia, working under a Patient Group Directive (PGD).
You will be responsible for management of your own case load of patients both in the Outpatient clinics and the community.
You will also provide support to the wider MDT within the outpatient clinic.
You will be well supported in your role by an experienced team of practitioners and mentors and will have the opportunity to develop clinical and research skills.

Main duties of the job
To be an autonomous practitioner in the assessment and treatment of patients with a diagnosis of Dystonia, including administering Botulinum Toxin Injections, working under a Patient Group Directive
To be a proactive member of the Neuro-Rehabilitation Outpatient team, working in conjunction with the MDT to achieve a high standard of care for patients attending all Clinics with a range of Neurological conditions.
To provide support to the wider MDT within the Outpatient setting.
In conjunction with the Operational Team Lead and Clinical Nurse Managers have clinical responsibility for promoting, implementing, evaluating and maintaining the highest standard of care within the clinical area.
To undertake service evaluation including audit promoting integrated governance agenda.
To provide Clinical Supervision to more junior members of staff and students.
To provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.
To incorporate a client centred philosophy into practice and client centred collaborative care
Demonstrate flexibility in the role, working across clinical pathways to support the needs of the service, whilst ensuring the delivery of high quality care at all times.

The Neurological Services encompass outreach services and those based at WGP. There are 4 dedicated inpatient wards (neuro-rehabilitation, neurobehavioural and neuro-psychiatry) providing 65 beds in total. There are also outpatient and community services including the following : Neurological Rehabilitation Outpatient's; Regional Disability Team; Community Multiple Sclerosis Team; Neuropsychiatry Outpatient's; Regional Communication Aids Service; Environmental Control Service; North East Drive Mobility; Northumberland Head Injury Service; and Community Acquired Brain Injury Services based in Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

To represent the Neuro-Rehab OP team within Neurological and Specialist Services within the CBU.
To provide education where appropriate to the MDT and external agencies.
