Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Community Practitioner to join the Kolvin Service. The Kolvin Service compromises a regional community adolescent forensic mental health service, a nationally commissioned FCAMHS and mental health and forensic services into two Secure Children's Homes (SCHs) in the North East for young people aged 10-18 years.

The Kolvin Service collaboratively leads on the implementation of the SECURE STAIRS trauma-informed framework at Aycliffe Secure Centre and Kyloe House SCHs. The SECURE STAIRS framework represents a shift in focus within the secure estate from interventions focussed solely at young people, to interventions focussed on the whole system.

The challenging nature of this post requires suitably applicants to be an experienced mental health or learning disability nurse who are highly motivated, enthusiastic and well organized, have excellent communication skills, sound clinical assessment, risk management and intervention skills; and a commitment to multi-disciplinary working is essential. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn and develop skills delivering therapeutic work and trauma-informed care as well as being able to demonstrate the capacity to understand the impact of working with trauma on professionals and carers.

Main duties of the job

The current role is being advertised to input into our Secure arm of the service providing NHSE commissioned adolescent forensic mental health services into Aycliffe Secure Centre in County Durham. The post holder will be operational from this location but may also have input into the broader service.

The post holder will assist the MDT in the service delivery, be responsible for carrying out comprehensive mental health assessment including risk assessments, management plans and care plans and support coordinating the provision of therapeutic interventions with young people.

The post holder will support the MDT providing a service for children and young people with complex trauma, who may be considered to present high risk to themselves, high risk to others or are highly vulnerable.

As part of a wider team, the successful candidate will offer assessments, carry out interventions, and support professionals and carers working with the children and young people to support the principles of the SECURE STAIRS Framework. Within this service there is the opportunity to develop further skills and knowledge with regards to trauma informed care and delivering therapeutic interventions.

To consider Carer needs and ensure Carer and family are involved in Care Planning where appropriate.

To deliver evidenced based Clinical and Psychologically based Interventions.

Essential

  • Education and Qualification - First Level Registered Nurse RNMH, RMN, RNLD or equivalent first level qualification e.g. Social Worker, OT, Clinical Psychologist, other. Mentor Training. Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/ psychological interventions / skills relevant to the post. Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post. Training in CPA (Care Programme Approach), Safeguarding, MAPPA (Multi Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults) and Child Protection. Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.

Desirable
