Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a specialist clinical technologist to join the Regional Communication Aid Service, a regional specialised service working in the field of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for 2 days per week.

You would be joining a supportive, multi-disciplinary team working across the region to help clients achieve their goals. We also have close links with other specialised services across England. You will be part of the technical team, supporting the assessment, provision and review of highly complex communication and mounting systems.

Main duties of the job

The role involves working with clients with a range of disabilities including cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease and multiple systems atrophy. You will work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will visit clients in schools, homes, care homes and hospitals across the region.

You will complete safety checks and preventative maintenance reviews of equipment with clients in a range of settings.

You will contribute to equipment management and record keeping.

You will be involved in equipment repair processes including troubleshooting technical problems.

You will provide specialist technical advice, information, education and training.

You will be part of equipment evaluation and seeking out new solutions.

You will support and work with the rest of the team in the process of assessing, trialling, implementing and reviewing complex electronic communication systems.

Education and Qualification

Essential

  • Relevant BEng / BSc or HND/C and significant experience. Substantial electronic/mechanical and/or computing component to qualification.
  • Registered Clinical Technologist/Healthcare Science Practitioner or equivalent significant experience
  • Significant relevant experience of use of computer technology
  • Experience of equipment management.
  • Experience in the use of tools relevant to fault finding.

Desirable

  • Professional Engineering Registration e.g. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (Registration with Engineering Council, IET)
  • Significant experience of electronic assistive technology including device configuration, provision and solutions.
  • Experience of working with people with disabilities.
  • Significant experience of equipment maintenance.
  • Significant experience of fault finding in electronic assistive technology and/or computing devices.
  • Experience of risk assessment and other relevant procedures relating to the safe provision of equipment.

Knowledge and Experience
