Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/Psychological Therapist to lead the Older Adult Psychology Team in Northumberland. The Psychology Team work into the Community Treatment Teams and the Memory Service, and have a number of roles in service development and research for the pathway as a whole.

This post would have responsibility for the Professional Leadership of all Psychology staff, and would be an integral member of the Older Adult Leadership Team, driving service development and continuous improvements.

As a Consultant in Older Adult Community Services, you would be working closely with the Associate Director of Psychological Services for North Community to consider the development of the Psychology workforce in the context of Community Transformation and the NHS Long Term Plan.

There is a strong network of Older Adult Psychologists in the Trust, including a Consultant Psychologist peer group and a Trust Wide Older People's Strategic Clinical Network. T

Main duties of the job

This post will have 2 days a week as Professional Lead for Older Adult Psychology, which will include the Professional Leadership of all psychology staff, responsibility for recruitment, managing resources, and ensuring access to appropriate supervision and CPD for staff.

You will also be working closely with the Older Adult Leadership Team to support the delivery of safe and effective services, and drive research and service development.

You will be responsible for co-ordinating Trainee Clinical Psychology placements and for providing teaching to the Newcastle Doctorate course in line with your own specialist areas in Older Adult Psychology.

There will also be 2 days per week undertaking direct clinical work with complex mental health problems across the Northumberland Community Treatment Team and neuropsychological assessments in the Northumberland Memory Service.

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and British Psychological Society.
  • HCPC registered practitioner psychologist

Desirable

  • Qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
  • Non-medical approved clinician

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings.
  • Substantial further specialist training and experience, equivalent to at least 6 years' experience, including being able to demonstrate further specialist training and experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a clinical / counselling psychologist over a minimum of 18 months or an alternative agreed by the Psychological Services Professional Lead.
  • Substantial post qualification experience of delivering evidence based psychological therapy training to a range of professional groups.
  • Substantial experience of providing clinical supervision.
