Job summary

We are looking for a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist to join Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust's (CNTW) Clinical Health Psychology Service in Gateshead, which provides clinical psychology services to Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be employed on a fixed term of twelve months, which could be taken as a secondment with the agreement of current line manager.

This post will provide clinical psychology to the following pathways: cancer, palliative care and general medical in Gateshead Health to whom the post holder will relate. The service is busy and the role is varied. This means we would be looking to recruit someone who is flexible, responsive, suitably experienced but importantly able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

In consultation with the Clinical Lead for the Oncology and Palliative Care Clinical Psychology Service and the Head of Service for Clinical Health Psychology, the post holder will help to manage and develop the clinical service. You must be able to provide high quality psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions as you will be expected to carry a caseload of people with more complex and challenging difficulties

Main duties of the job

The role includes supporting our specialist multidisciplinary colleagues, working in collaboration with the other professional groups and ensuring good standards of psychological care across the system. This will include the provision of consultation, clinical supervision and training. You will also be expected to support the triage process and multi-disciplinary team meetings as part of the leadership role. The ability to develop and share ideas, as well as to relate positively and communicate well with other members of the multidisciplinary team is essential.

Experience of clinical work in oncology or palliative care will be an advantage. This post will suit a Clinical Psychologist with significant post qualification experience.

This service is part of a wider department of Clinical Health Psychology in Gateshead. There are close links with the local Doctorate Clinical Psychology courses and Universities. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, is the CHKS Top Hospitals programme national patient experience award winner for 2019 and was also named as one of the Top 40 hospitals in the country. CNTW is rated by CQC as outstanding.
