Applications are invited from experienced individuals to join the Enhanced Bed Management (EBM) service as a Clinical Bed Manager (CBM)
Provide clinical advice and leadership to all referrers and clinical staff working within services in scope.
The post holder will be responsible for the day to day co-ordination of work within their sphere of responsibility. The Bed Management service will operate 7 days weekly and across the 24 hour span and be responsible for managing bed resources across CNTW for agreed wards.
To receive referrals from CNTW clinicians requesting hospital admissions, to negotiate appropriate placement taking into account service user presentation, organisational policy and organisation resources.
To take clinical responsibility for bed allocation decisions.
To organise CNTW resources to ensure the availability of beds for admissions. This will include making clinical judgements regarding transfers between wards and to community services to facilitate new admissions as required and organising those transfers.
Main duties of the job
Once successful candidate is in post- they will support EBM with the following:
- Undertake the role of EBM's Clinical Bed Manager and triage all calls/referrals for access to a CNTW adult, older adult, LD and CYPS inpatient bed - this will include access to both Ferndene Hospital wards (Redburn, Fraser, Stephenson Unit and PICU) and Lotus Ward in Middlesbrough during night time hours.
- The Clinical Bed Manager on triage hold the responsible 24/7 to source and identify the appropriate bed according to individual need and pathway.
- EBM Clinical Bed Manger will provide Bed Management cover for CYPS Clinical Case Management Service (from 8.30pm until 10:00am and from 18:00pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays).
Outside the triage function of EBM; the successful candidatewill also play a pivotal role by effectively participating within the clinical delivery to ensure the ongoing provision of safe and high quality service delivery. There will be an emphasis to work collaboratively with urgent, planned and inpatient services to coordinate the care of service users requiring admission and subsequent discharge.
The successful candidate must demonstrate clinical excellence in contributing to the management of complex cases and to assist inpatient MDTs as appropriate, utilising excellent communication skills and developed interpersonal qualities with all members of the team, service users and their relatives and/or carers.
