Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an 8a Senior Applied Psychologist (or Band 7 Psychologist with relevant experience would be considered) to work in the speciality of a community Forensic Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (FCAMHS) based at the Kolvin Service in Newcastle.

The service provides forensic mental health consultation, assessment, treatment and psychological interventions to young people under the age of 18 years who present with high risk of high harm behaviours to others.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have a motivation to support young people with complex backgrounds and an ability to be flexible and adaptive to the changing demands of the service and our young people.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with specialist psychological expertise to:

  • Provide specialist forensic mental health consultation to partnership agencies to assist in supporting understanding of complex risk.
  • Complete complex assessments including psychological risk assessments and providing psychological formulation.
  • Deliver evidence based psychological interventions.
  • Deliver teaching and training and upskilling the wider workforce.
  • Provide of psychological advice and consultation to the wider MDT.
  • Provide of supervision which may include assistant psychologists, trainee psychologists, and wider workforce.
  • Provide leadership and contribution to service-based projects and research.
  • Manage of service audits and evaluations.

The Kolvin Service is based at St Nicholas Hospital, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, and provides regionally and nationally commissioned community (FCAMHS) and integrated mental health services to secure children's homes.

The current role is based in our outpatient/community department in Newcastle. As we are a community service you will be required to travel to different locations across the North East and Cumbria utilising your own transportation.
