Lead Radiology Assistant Band 4
To manage and monitor the performance of the site Radiology assistant team to support this team by setting clear objectives and facilitating their learning needs as well as ensuring they provide a high standard of communication with patients. Perform a supporting role under direct supervision of qualified staff, working in clinical and office areas, assisting the Radiographers and Consultant Radiologists (including speciality doctors) within the busy Radiology department with patient, equipment and environment care, patient transfer, with some reception, telephone and medical records handling, use of computers and data input duties. Liaise with NHS professionals, support staff and the general public to ensure an efficient service.
Main duties of the job
Manage Radiology Assistants at the site under the leadership of the Radiology Trust Lead Radiographer. Responsible for the training of new staff and updating existing staff. Communicate with a wide range of patients (adults and children) undergoing Radiological examinations and provide explanation of ongoing care and support as needed. When trained and deemed competent undertake clinical activities, using appropriate equipment (these will be activities relevant to speciality) e.g. IV Cannulation, venepuncture and assisting in FNA procedures. Participate in out of hour duties be prepared to cover shifts at short notice, across all areas. Assist qualified staff in the processing and management patient records utilising computer based patient entry systems and manual files. Demonstrate good communication skills, recognising the importance of patient confidentiality.Participate in departmental meetings, raising issues regarding the smooth running of the department or areas of concern. Introduce new members of staff to their duties and participate in the departmental induction programme. Undertake continuing professional development, including mandatory and statutory updating, maintaining a portfolio. Remain up to date with changing practice and participate in self-development and updating, completing the Trust's individual performance review with the designated manager.
