Job summary

INTERNAL ONLY TO NORTH CUMBRIA INTEGRATED CARE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST (NCIC) EMPLOYEES ONLY

The post holder will support the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) on the Cumberland Infirmary site and the Stroke Rehabilitation ward at West Cumberland Hospital. The post holder will be required to act as a specialist in stroke and will provide direct contact care, make informed decisions by assessment and treatment skills, and deliver specialist case management advice to multi-disciplinary teams.

Contribute to the planning processes for people with stroke disease within North Cumbria Integrated care NHS Trust, providing:

  • Clinical expertise and practice autonomously
  • Skilled and knowledgeable care to patients with stroke and their carers.
  • Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of direct care to patients with stroke

Main duties of the job

Clinical Practice

  • Deliver highly specialist case management advice to multi-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of own level of responsibility and autonomy and the limits of own competence and professional scope of practice
  • in collaboration with Consultant staff, assessing and treating patients (ordering and interpretation of investigations and non-medical prescribing);

Developing Self and Others

  • Act as a constant source of clinical and theoretical knowledge for all grades and disciplines of staff as well as patients and their significant others, providing support and clinical advice in Stroke, based on evidenced based research
  • Disseminate best practice research findings whilst developing and contributing to local guidelines, interpreting and adapting national protocols and standards to enhance patient care and safety

Quality, Evaluation and Research

  • Support Audit and evaluation of the service
  • To participate in national Stroke research projects, where appropriate

Leading and Developing Practice

  • Demonstrate a strong leadership and management skillset as per the leadership and management pillar
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management issues surrounding the role
  • Contribute to Trust wide policy and lead service specific policy development by representing the needs of Adults affected by Stroke
