The North Cumbria Children's and Young People's Diabetes (CYP) Team are looking to recruit an experienced and dynamic Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse (PDSN) to lead a well-established service across two hospital sites

The post holder will provide expert and specialist care for CYP and their families and coordinate a safe and seamless transition to adult care

This Lead PDSN role requires managing complex caseloads, leading the specialist nursing team and working in collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT), including stakeholders to drive service improvement and maximise a positive patient experience

The team is part of the North East and North Cumbria Children and Young People's Diabetes Network and are an innovative MDT within the trust providing the latest hybrid closed-loop technology to CYP and their families in North Cumbria

The candidate must demonstrate extensive experience working in paediatric diabetes. The post holder will have senior line management responsibility for the specialist nursing service and the team administrator and therefore requires strong leadership qualities providing direction, support and professional development for the team fostering a positive and accountable environment.

Main duties of the job

The Lead PDSN is an autonomous practitioner with extensive experience in caring for children and young people (CYP) with diabetes and has clinical and managerial leadership of the Specialist Paediatric Diabetes Nursing team (PDSNs) and team administrator

The post holder will provide exceptional leadership qualities, specialised nursing skills, knowledge and expertise within agreed protocols and guidelines for CYP and their families with diabetes, including delivering a nurse led insulin pump service using the latest diabetes technologies, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and hybrid closed-loop systems

The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination and development of the Paediatric Diabetes Service in North Cumbria with the Lead Consultant Paediatrician, Lead Nurse for Children and Young People and Lead Matron for Women and Children's services, in line with the Best Practice Tariff (BPT), the regional and national children and young people's diabetes networks, government and trust initiatives

Monitoring and leading improvements in standards of care and clinical governance will be essential in this role through supervision of practice, clinical audit including the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit (NPDA), evidenced based practice, research and quality improvement (QI) programmes

The role requires skilled partnership working across primary and secondary care settings to ensure integrated care for the CYP and their families with diabetes
