Band 7 trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Microbiology
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) to work within the Microbiology Department at the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle. We are looking for an experienced Band 7 biomedical scientist with proven leadership skills who will support the medical microbiology and infection science laboratory teams whilst developing their own advanced clinical practice skills in order to take on additional clinical duties.
This is a new role which will be tailored to the needs of the service to provide enhanced capacity, capability, productivity and efficiency in line with the NHS long term workforce plan. The role encompasses leadership and supervision of the delivery of the microbiology diagnostic service, providing advanced biomedical science technical support, training and advice, and contributing to the clinical microbiology service under the direct supervision of the senior medical microbiology staff. They will work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to meet the needs of the service.
Salary commencing at AfC Band 7 prior to qualifying as an ACP
Main duties of the job
To provide leadership and support within the infection sciences department to deliver a high quality diagnostic service meeting the requirements of the clinical teams and encouraging holistic patient care.
To work at an advanced level of practice with a high level of autonomy with complex decision making.
To support medical microbiology staff with day to day clinical activity which includes clinical authorisation of laboratory results to users and clinical liaison, providing advanced level interpretation and communication to service users including from other departments and wider healthcare teams.
To provide training and mentorship to biomedical science staff as well as undergraduate and post graduate medical staff training within the infection sciences department.
To contribute operationally to local policy development, clinical governance and service development with a focus on improving diagnostic pathways.
The primary objective of this role is as a t-ACP in infection sciences working towards further progressing your career with successful completion of the 3 year University of Sunderland Advanced Clinical Practice Apprenticeship programme. The course delivers on core capabilities and advanced skills, knowledge and behaviours required for ACP underpinning the four pillars: leadership, clinical practice, research and education.
