This post is for a trainee APNP with the goal after completing the training to go on to an APNP role. Training will be over a 3 year period with the successful candidate completing the training through the University of Sheffield, where we have secured NHSE funding.
An experienced paediatric nurse with proven leadership skills who will support the medical teams whilst developing their own advanced clinical assessment skills, including assessment of all systems, diagnostic skills and understanding of investigations. They will demonstrate safe, critical decision-making, in the clinical decision-making process and will work collaboratively with Consultants and multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of children and families, supporting the delivery of policy and procedure. They will work to ensure wherever possible that junior medical staff are enabled to meet their training and development requirements. Local requirements for advanced clinical practice must be met or worked towards. The trainee Paediatric APNP will be involved in Audit, Clinical governance and research.
Main duties of the job
- Once qualified to work independently at an advanced clinical level in the direct delivery of high quality care, making critical clinical decisions based on advanced clinical skills assessment.
- To work towards providing clinical leadership and support within both the medical and nursing teams and to support the Trust lead ACP/PA (where in post) in developing the Trust's ACP/PA service to improve the patient experience.
- To support Consultants with day to day clinical activity covering children's ward, SCBU, delivery suite, A&E emergency department and other areas where clinic need arise (to be determined according to need of specialist area).
- Working towards supporting junior medical staff, sharing clinical workload and allowing junior doctors to achieve training and development requirements.
- To work towards providing in-patient areas with consistent high quality clinical care.
- To support Trust Management teams with on-going clinical care provision and assist with effective patient flow through the Trust.
- Implement robust clinic governance system
