Hepatology Nurse Specialist

Job summary
The post holder will collaborate with Hepatology nurses, consultants and MDT to ensure:
- NCIC meets Key Performance Indicators for HCC surveillance defined by the Cancer Alliance and NICE
- A nurse led coordinated paracentesis day case service
- Nurse Led Hepatology clinics
- Support for Hepatology Nurse Team
Main duties of the job
To work alongside the Hepatology team, and with their support lead the care for patients with liver disease including cirrhosis, on hepatocellular carcinoma surveillance and programme of care for patients with ascites.
- To provide nurse led coordinated paracentesis day case service.
- To provide nurse led HCC surveillance clinics for patients with stable cirrhosis.
- Be responsible for the care delivery for patients undergoing liver surveillance for stable compensated cirrhosis and to meet the needs of patients.
- Manage patients within the liver cancer surveillance pathway in accordance with relevant society and National guidance (e.g., NICE QS152).
- To establish effective links with Hepatology multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in order to ensure that when cancer is detected, there is timely presentation and transfer of patients to the MDT.
- To ensure patient records are completed to include results of all diagnostic investigations, onward referrals, and clinical communication
- Covering Hepatology nurse colleagues.
