Job summary

Rehabilitation Assistant (Prosthetics) Band 3: up to 30 Hours per week

The successful candidate will join our team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Prosthetists at The Specialist Rehabilitation and Mobility Centre, Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle. They will undertake specific support work and interventions delegated from qualified staff, to aid in the rehabilitation of amputee patients in both acute in-patient, out-patient and domiciliary settings. This will involve carrying and prioritising own patient caseload, treating patients under agreed protocols, monitoring progress and reporting back. Some work will be undertaken without direct supervision. Problem solving skills are required to determine the appropriate course of action.

The Prosthetic department within SRMC is one of only nine Murrison specialist rehabilitation centres in England and provides:

  • A multi-disciplinary team lead by our Rehabilitation Consultant, providing prosthetic services for the amputees in North Cumbria and surrounding areas.
  • Acute rehabilitation from amputation at CIC to hospital discharge
  • Inpatient/outpatient and domiciliary prosthetic rehabilitation after an amputation and for the remainder of the patients' lives
  • Access to sophisticated, high tech equipment to enhance recovery
  • On site manufacturing and repair of prostheses for upper and lower limb patients

Main duties of the job

A rehabilitation assistant within a in a multi-disciplinary team is expected to work with other health and social care professionals to develop the ethos of multi-disciplinary, integrated care and seamless services ensuring that patient care is delivered to the highest possible standard.The post holder will report to a registered health professional and implement rehabilitation plans for patients post amputation in acute, community hospital and domiciliary settings, observing the patient's condition and provide direct care with a rehabilitation and therapy focus. This may include supporting patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living.

Flexible working will be required to meet the needs of the patient group.

The department operates Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm.
