An exciting opportunity has arisen for a pharmacist with drive and enthusiasm to join our dynamic Pharmacy team. The Clinical Pharmacy Service is well established and provides high quality care across a variety of specialties.
Are you ready for the challenge of working in a varied and exciting role as the Advanced Specialist Pharmacist within cancer services at the Cumberland Infirmary . The Northern Centre for Cancer in Carlisle and Whitehaven is delivered by Newcastle Hospitals and we are looking for the right pharmacist to join the cancer services provided to our patients who access their chemotherapy in this service and to support acute admissions too.
The Advanced Specialist Pharmacist for oncology and haematology cancers is responsible for the provision of comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to cancer patients and to the chemotherapy treatment service and to support patients requiring chemotherapy during acute admissions. You will be exposed to a range of clinical presentations and queries around oncology and haematological cancers.
We are looking for someone who has extensive clinical pharmacy knowledge and experience, and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team. You will need to have excellent communication, clinical and negotiation skills, as well as experience of supervising other staff, providing education and training. Experience of working in cancer services and of using Chemocare are an advantage.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- The leadership and proactive management of screening chemotherapy for patients attending for treatment or who receive cancer medicines via Homecare Providers
- Providing highly specialist clinical pharmacy services to patients within the Northern Centre for Cancer in Carlisle and Whitehaven and to other patients receiving cancer treatments
- Developing services in line with national standards.
- Providing expert and highly specialised pharmaceutical information and advice to medical staff, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals and patients, both within the Trust and externally as appropriate.
- To work as an independent prescriber (on qualification) to ensure patient medication is optimised for each patient
- Work collaboratively with other clinicians and health-care providers to implement and maintain innovative clinical pharmacy services
- Providing clinical training, guidance, support and supervision of junior pharmacists, pre-registration trainees, other Pharmacy staff and other Trust staff as required.
- Promoting the medicines optimisation agenda by leading specific audit and research projects in the agreed specialty and provide support to others.
- Identifying and implementing cost saving initiatives.
- Evaluating and expanding the role of pharmacy services within Cancer Services, as well as delivering the required medication safety and governance agendas.
