Job summary

Band 5 Dermatology Nurse, 67.5 hours available

You will work alongside the multidisciplinary team in a busy department and will provide nursing care to a caseload of patients with general dermatology conditions

You will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and work alongside the Dermatology team at West Cumberland Hospital and Hilltop Heights Carlisle

Ensure that the organisation and leadership of nursing and midwifery services supports the delivery of the highest standards of patient care in the pursuance of the Trust's objectives. The core nursing team is responsible for ensuring that effective systems of work are in place to ensure the safe delivery of evidence based patient care. Support effective patient flows and management of resources in the allocated clinical area in the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Ensure that the organisation and leadership of nursing and midwifery services supports the delivery of the highest standards of patient care in the pursuance of the Trust's objectives. The core nursing team is responsible for ensuring that effective systems of work are in place to ensure the safe delivery of evidence based patient care. Support effective patient flows and management of resources in the allocated clinical area in the Trust.

  • Deliver UVB phototherapy according to unit policies and guidelines.
  • Carry out contact allergy testing according to unit policy and guidelines.

  • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections
  • assist in theatre for minor operations
  • Assist consultant dermatologists during out-patient clinics.
  • Maintain accurate records of the care given.

  • Liase and communicate with other members of the nursing and multi-disciplinary.
  • Be aware of and demonstrate practice based on current advances in nursing practice and research.
  • Ensure that the Trust policies and guidelines relevant to the unit are given due consideration.

  • Demonstrate a continuing process of attaining educational, research, clinical and leadership.
  • Assess and review patients' condition and adjust treatments accordingly within protocols, without supervision.
