Clinical Educator/Advanced Ultrasound Practitioner, Band 8a, fixed term for 12 months, cross site working.
North Cumbria University Hospitals are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Sonographer/Clinical Educator to join our expanding, friendly team.
North Cumbria Integrated care comprises of two main hospital sites, the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle and the West Cumberland Hospital Whitehaven, with two smaller satellite sites. The Clinical Educator will be required to work within a team of Sonographers, Radiologists, and clerical staff. This post will require the post holder to work across both hospital sites in addition to satellite units when required. There will be requirement for weekend working on a rotational basis.
We are seeking an enthusiastic qualified Sonographer who has a passion for teaching and service improvement to work in partnership with the University of Cumbria and the clinical team at NCIC. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the practical training of ultrasound students, undertaking educational support at the University of Cumbria and deputising for the Trust Lead Sonographer when required.
Main duties of the job
Candidates must be HCPC registered or equivalent with a PgC/PgD in Medical Ultrasound being essential. We welcome applications from Sonographers who have undertaken a direct entry Ultrasound PGDip. Suitable candidates must have experience in covering Obstetrics, Gynaecology and General Abdominal scanning including small parts. Experience in Vascular and MSK is desirable but not essential. Applicants will have at least two years post graduate experience in Ultrasound.
There will be a requirement to train student sonographer's and other medical staff so a passion for teaching would be an advantage. There will be a requirement to deliver training to students at the University of Cumbria, Lancaster campus. You will need to be able to work independently, demonstrating a high level of competence and will need to have excellent communication skills. The post holder is expected to deputise for the Trust Lead Sonographer so would be an ideal opportunity for those looking to develop their management skills.
The Clinical Educator is expected to:
Manage the local training of Ultrasound trainees within NCIC
Liaise with departmental mentors to asses the individual trainees progress
Take part in any revised Trainer to Trainee delivery model
Contribute to the departmental work flow
Take part in student recruitment
Undertake educational support at the hub
Deputise for Trust Lead Sonographer when required.
