Job summary

Band 6 Radiographer - part time hours/ job share considered

Applicants must be 2 years qualified with general x-ray experience to be the Lead Radiographer at Penrith hospital and oversee the daily running of the service. Base to be at Penrith with the expectation to rotate to Cumberland Infirmary to maintain skills.

Work within the team that provides 365, 24 hour Radiology services, playing a major part in the practical training of radiographers, students and other staff. Take responsibility for the daily organisation of the service as required, amending workload and schedules to adjust for emergencies. Take responsibility for the wellbeing & positive experience of patients and carers in your locality. Undertake appraisals for Band 5 radiographers, radiology helpers and radiology porters as directed by the Lead Radiographers.

  • Supporting and deputising for the Lead Radiographers in specialist areas in providing a comprehensive service, using initiative to meet and organise the demands of the service.
  • Take responsibility for the daily organisation and coordinating activities within the available resources.
  • Carry out duties as assigned by the Lead Radiographers.
  • Make the care and well being of patients the emphasis of your daily duties.
  • Treat all patients, their carers' and or relatives with dignity and respect.
  • Work within the designated area efficiently, keeping to appointment times if applicable.

Main duties of the job

  • Work as an experienced Radiographer and lone working at Penrith radiology department as well as within the teams that provide Radiology services at the Cumberland Infirmary.
  • Supporting and deputising for the Lead Radiographers in specialist areas in providing a comprehensive service, using initiative to meet and organise the demands of the service.
  • Take responsibility for the daily organisation and coordinating activities within the available resources.
  • Supervise and assist in the practical training of radiographers and radiography helpers. Willingly help other professionals to understand radiographic procedures and images.
  • Act as mentor or preceptor to less experienced staff as required.
  • Work as a member of the team that plays a major part in the practical training of student radiographers.
  • Introduce new members of staff to their duties and play a key role in the departmental induction programme.
