Upper GI nurse specialist (Cytosponge Pilot ) 6 months fixed term
The purpose of this role is to join the Upper GI team to provide nursing leadershipon the delivery and implementation of a new pathway for suitable patients to havea procedure which is alternative to a traditional endoscopy. This role has beenspecially designed to lead on optimal pathways and timely access to diagnosticprocedures and will require the post holder to lead on the pathway as it continuesto refine over time. The post holder will be expected to deliver a Nurse leddiagnostic service for patients who are referred in for UGI diagnosticinvestigations. This will include performing procedures and assessments in anoutpatient setting and working closely with the UGI clinicians to deliver a newdiagnostic service.The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a consistent, accessibleservice offering expert advice, clinical practice and support to people withOesophageal and Gastric Cancer,All staff are expected to work to the Trust Values
Main duties of the job
The North Cumbria GI Service is a cohesive and integrated department,combining the services gastroenterology and endoscopy, upper gastrointestinal,hepatobiliary, colorectal, emergency GI surgery.The service provides complete care for patients with disorders relating to thegastrointestinal tract. Surgeons, physicians, specialist nurses and allied healthprofessions work closely together to provide in house multidisciplinary care for allpatients with gastrointestinal problems both in the emergency, electives inpatientand outpatient setting.
