Job summary

Ward Manager Band 7+

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior nurse looking for their next step towards nursing management and ward leadership. This is a full time position. The post holder will be responsible for a small team delivering nursing care covering a twenty-four hour period including public holidays and weekends.

Main duties of the job

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and manage a dedicated and committed team on Isel Ward at Cockermouth Community Hospital.

The successful candidate will have previous substantive experience at Band 6 or Band 7 level. Excellent communication skills are essential and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate and sustain new and innovative ways of working which facilitate developments in nursing practice.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and committed to improving service delivery with a flexible approach to the needs of the service. This post provides an excellent career opportunity for someone who is clinically credible but wishes to further develop management and leadership skills.

The post holder will be expected to assess patients, the care plans devised, and the implementation of the care. Provide advice and to the multidisciplinary team and ensure all records and documentation are completed and relevant. The role involves managing staff, rotas, appraisals, recruitment and selection, resource control and bigotry management for the area. This role involves the overall 24 hour responsibility for the Ward/Dept./Unit and therefore will require enhanced communication skills in order to deal with the broad range of issues involved in the day to day management of the unit.
