Job summary
Radiology Nurse Band 6 - 26. 25 hrs - CIC
Assess patients, plan and deliver nursing care within the Radiology Department.
Provide specialist interventional Radiology nurse support within the multi-disciplinary team. Provide clinical supervision and training to other staff. Participate in research and lead on clinical audits.
Main duties of the job
- Manage and provide all aspects of patient care
- Assist other members of the radiological team as necessary, teaching them how you recognise and act upon signs of deteriorating health.
- Provide and receive information about patients, including people with special needs and disabilities, using negotiation sills as required to achieve cooperation
- Provide nursing care to individuals during diagnostic procedures, maintaining patient comfort and safety at all times. Support and counsel patients prior to and during radiological examinations as, many of whom will be terminally or critically ill
- Administer IV contrast media under Patient Group Directives and monitor patients post injection for signs of anaphylaxis, or any other adverse intervention
- Lead in emergency situations that require nursing/medical intervention
- Deliver and monitor the effects of sedation and analgesia during interventional radiology procedures
- Provide specialist interventional radiology nursing support as a practising scrub nurse for a wide range of interventional procedures
- Be a practising member of the radiology nurse led PICC service
- Comply with responsibility to safeguard children and vulnerable adults, ensuring attendance at appropriate training.
- For professionally registered staff and Health Care Assistants - take personal responsibility for putting the person receiving care first, and to challenge poor care/practise, doing so as soon as any shortcomings are seen.
