Job summary

Research Nurse B5 - 37.5Hrs available -

Applications are sought from highly motivated individuals with a nursing background to support the delivery of a portfolio of clinical trials and other research studies. The successful applicant will be expected to work across a range of clinical specialties in the community settings and also work into the acute setting as required. These include neurodegenerative disorders, neurology and sexual health. The post holder will work closely with the local Clinicians, Clinical Departments, fellow Research Practitioners, Administrators, Researcher Team Leaders and R&D Manager in developing and maintaining the research infrastructure to support, promote and organise patient recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data. They will also be required to provide research support and information for research staff, patients, volunteers and relatives as appropriate.

This post involves patient contact and does not involve laboratory activities. Excellent communication and good diplomacy skills are required as well as developed organisational, time management and computer skills. The successful applicant will be expected to travel across the region.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Research Team in the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust supports clinical research undertaken by clinicians, research nurses and clinical research practitioners by being responsible for research governance and offering managerial support.

The majority of funding for personnel is provided by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN). The NIHR CRN aims to improve the speed, quality, and integration of clinical research, through the successful delivery of research in the NHS. The aim is to provide a world-class health service infrastructure to support clinical research and accelerate patient access to the most appropriate treatment and care.
