Job summary
The post holder will be expected to provide oral health care to priority groups that may include people with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, severe mental health illnesses and the severely medically compromised. The post holder will be proficient in diagnosis, treatment plans, consent and treatment as appropriate for special care patients referred to the service. The post holder will be expected to be involved in the provision of care, training and supervision for special care in Cumbria. This may involve travelling throughout Cumbria by exception.
The post holder will be required to be on the GDC specialist list for Special Care Dentistry and will be a highly visible, proactive and accessible clinical leader in their speciality.
The post-holder will be expected to participate in regional MCN activity, as well as liaising with colleagues in the Special Care and Community Dental Service, local General Dental Practitioners (GDPs) and other health and social care professionals as appropriate.
The post holder will be required to support the Dental Service Clinical Director in the development and strategic direction of special care dentistry within the service.

Main duties of the job
You will be working within the Special Care and Community Dental Service, based at Carlisle Dental Centre. The Dental Centre is a modern multi-surgery facility on the Cumberland Infirmary site with ready access to support from secondary care colleagues. It also accommodates an undergraduate dental training centre as part of UCLAN. The centre has access to digital radiography and a wheelchair tipper and bariatric facilities.The team are motivated and proactive in the best interests of their patients. In Cumbria you will have wide access to a broad patient base with the majority of referrals coming from local dentists but also from other health and social care providers.
