Job summary
The Adolescent and Young Adult Service which is part of the Child, Young Adult and Family Directorate is a specialist Psychoanalytic Therapies Service for young people between the ages of 14 and 25, designed to meet a variety of needs specific to adolescents and young adults who are struggling with mental health issues, and to their parents and families. This service represents a long history and established tradition at the Tavistock Centre, spanning over 50 years, of offering a service to adolescents and young adults during this crucial phase of development.
The AYAS is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in the psychological and emotional difficulties of this age range. The Service includes child & adolescent psychotherapists, child and adolescent psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social workers, and those training in these disciplines.
This post is for a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist or Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist to join the Adolescent and Young Adult Service which is a specialist psychoanalytic psychotherapies service for adolescents and young adults (aged 14-25). Clinicians in the service also contribute to the Young Persons Consultation Service, which offers brief, psychoanalytic consultations to young people aged 16 to 30.
Main duties of the job
Maintain a high standard of clinical records, producing and maintaining good communications with referrers and other professionals involved, liaising with the referrers where appropriate, including liaison with local services and participating in outreach meetings.
Foster a culture of networking in an open and transparent way with internal and external partners.
Communicate complex information in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, at times dealing with service users who may be hostile or present challenging behaviour.
Ensure that all organisational systems and processes are adhered to.
Contribute to the quality, safety and continuous improvement of services provided to service users and their families.
Act as a positive role model and participate in the education, development and mentorship of other staff.

Essential
- Clinical Psychologist Degree level as a minimum plus Post graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society.
- Eligible for registration as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society.
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
- Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist Degree level as a minimum plus developed specialist and practical knowledge equating to postgraduate degree/ Masters level
- Registration as a full member with Association of Child Psychotherapists as a Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.

- Evidence of substantial clinical experience of working with patient population 14-25-year-olds). A clear track record of managing complexity and risk whilst maintaining high standards of service delivery
