Job summary
We operate a small Administrative and Secretarial Staff Bank within the Trust, effectively a small temping agency, which provides administrative staff to departments for short and medium term bookings. The roles we fill, the hours and the duration of bookings are all varied so we can often find something to suit people who are looking for temporary work for all various reasons.
We would be interested to hear from high quality individuals, ideally ones who have some work and office experience already. Applicants must be able to type and have good IT skills. They must also have a good telephone manner, and a mature attitude is important, especially in some of the more sensitive positions. A flexible and willing attitude is essential.
If this interests you, please apply!
Main duties of the job
There are a wide variety of jobs that become available. Hours and days are often flexible.
Some posts may at times involve reading, typing and dealing with clinical material that is often of a graphic nature and can cause stress and anxiety in the person who has to deal with it on a day to day basis. On occasions administrators may also be involved with talking to patients on the telephone, and even though most calls are pleasant and straightforward, administrators at times have to respond to aggressive or unhappy members of the public.
About us
The Tavistock Clinic and the Portman Clinic became an NHS Trust in 1994. These are National Health Service outpatient clinics providing a range of mental health services for psychological, emotional and personality problems. Both clinics provide a range of services which include family work, individual psychotherapy, for children or adults, group therapy and couple therapy.
The Tavistock Clinic was founded in 1920 and leads the field in postgraduate mental health training in the United Kingdom. We have a national and international reputation as a centre of excellence for training, research and scholarship. Our 120-strong professional staff - includes social workers, nurses, family therapists, child psychotherapists, psychologists, psychoanalysts and psychiatrists - provide training for 1200 students every year.
The Portman Clinic was founded in 1933 and deals with patients who have either indulged in an act of criminality or who see themselves as suffering from a sexual deviation. The influence of the clinic is far greater than the number of patients seen, it also advises and supports other professions dealing with the same patient groups, particularly the prison and probation services.
Trust also provides a consultancy service and undertakes extensive research activities.
