Job summary

We are looking for an exceptional individual to work with the Maternity education team at Newham University Hospital - Barts Health NHS Trust. The post holder is required to work with the multi-disciplinary team at the Newham site, being responsible for supporting midwifery and obstetric staff within the practice environment, to be competent in CTG monitoring to achieve better birth outcomes. Ensuring staff are assessing fetal wellbeing in the context of the woman's health, pregnancy, gestation and stage of labour.

Main duties of the job

Working in collaboration with the labour ward coordinators, obstetricians, consultant midwife and education team to develop a comprehensive training and competency assessment package.

The role has a strong clinical focus therefore you should be able to demonstrate expertise in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care, specifically in the use of NICE guidance and expert knowledge of key obstetric emergencies and fetal monitoring.

Provide antepartum and intrapartum care, which is reflective of research-based evidence in an appropriate setting.

o To act as an advocate for women and their families and make appropriate referral wherever it is necessary.o To liaise with other appropriate multidisciplinary teams and organisations for effective collaborative care.o Ensure the staff are assessing fetal well-being in the context of the woman's health, pregnancy, gestation and stage of labour.o Develop midwives' and doctors' competence in undertaking intermittent auscultation of the fetal heart in low-risk women as per NICE guidelines.o Support staff in enhancing their skills in reducing risk within clinical practice.o To communicate sensitive and complex information effectively and support the care pathway.o To be able to identify and offer appropriate services to women and babies who are high risk.
