The closing date is 22 April 2026

Job summary

Job overview: Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist in Allergy & Severe Asthma. Fixed term contract until end December 2026

A rare opportunity has arisen in our unique Allergy and Severe Asthma service due to the current postholder being on secondment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, supportive and motivated nurse to work alongside our existing nursing team. You will provide excellent care, support and advice to our out-patient and day-unit service users and contribute to multidisciplinary working.

Working from Monday to Friday, you will join the existing CNS team and participate in administering allergen immunotherapy and biologic treatments. You will carry out allergy testing and provide education and support to help our patients manage allergies and anaphylaxis.

In Severe Asthma, you will provide education and support to help patients manage their condition and also administer biologic treatments.

Main duties of the job

We are a designated allergy service and specially commissioned service for asthma. We are responsible for meticulous patient assessment, management planning and the supply and administration of specialist medicines. We do this through a multi-disciplinary approach in both asthma and allergy.

We are looking for a strong team player with a keen interest in allergy and/or asthma and who wishes to get experience within this specialist field. Prior experience within either specialty is desirable but not expected and training will be provided.

As a clinical nurse specialist in this service, you will be instrumental in preparing and performing allergy challenges. You will also provide specific patient education and management plans to enable patients to manage their condition. You will contribute to nurse-led consultations, administer biologic therapies and allergen immunotherapy and act appropriately in case of anaphylaxis.

You will participate in weekly multi-disciplary meetings for both specialties and gain an understanding of the roles of others in helping manage our patients. You will respond to enquiries over email and on the telephone and with support, triage patients into our rapid access asthma clinic. Additionally, you will contribute to the smooth running of the service and helping maintain local databases.
