An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Scheduling Department at The Royal London Hospital. We are recruiting an enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated Scheduler. You will be joining a fun and friendly department with a strong focus on improvement.

Main duties of the job

The Band 4 Elective Scheduler plays a vital role in delivering a high-quality, patient-centred service within The Royal London Hospital. This role supports the smooth and timely coordination of elective care by organising appointments, admissions, and pre-operative requirements in line with RTT standards and Trust access policies. Acting as a key liaison between patients, clinical teams, and administrative services, the scheduler ensures clear communication and efficient workflow throughout the elective pathway. With responsibility for accurate data entry and maintaining up-to-date waiting list information on systems such as Cerner Millennium, the post-holder helps safeguard performance, safety, and utilisation of clinical capacity. By proactively addressing scheduling challenges and providing compassionate support to patients, the Band 4 Scheduler contributes meaningfully to an organised, responsive, and patient-focused elective service.

Essential

  • Evidence of ongoing personal development (e.g., information management, administration)
  • Willingness to undertake further training and development

Desirable

  • 5 GCSE's Minimum A-C including English and Maths or equivalent qualification.
  • Training in RTT, medical terminology, or patient pathway management.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a scheduling, booking, coordination, or customer facing role inside or outside the NHS, ideally experience with Cerner.
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment where accuracy and time management are essential.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable people, families, or service users.
  • Previous involvement in service improvement, pathway redesign, or administrative audits.
  • Experience working across multiple teams or supporting different specialities.

Desirable

  • Capable of escalating issues to operational teams where necessary
  • The capability to communicate with all levels of clinicians to ensure a collaborative working relationship

Knowledge

  • Competent use of the following Windows, Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Maintain IG guidelines and procedures.
  • Flexible approach to the planning and co-ordination of patient pathways to maximize use of theatre sessions.

  • Understanding of elective care pathways, pre operative processes, or theatre utilisation.
  • Awareness of the NHS Constitution and NHS value
  • Knowledge of data quality standards within healthcare or similar high governance environments.
  • Familiarity with national waiting time standards beyond RTT (e.g., cancer pathways, diagnostics)
