Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

Barts Health NHS Trust is looking to appoint a substantive Consultant in Respiratory Medicine. This full-time post (10 PAs) is based at Whipps Cross University Hospital and offers an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative, progressive respiratory team serving East London.
This role is suitable for an experienced or newly appointed consultant with a passion for delivering high-quality respiratory care across inpatient and outpatient settings, alongside a strong interest in service development and innovation.
Main duties of the job
You will join a team of nine experienced Respiratory Consultants, delivering care across inpatient wards and a dedicated Chest Clinic. The post includes general respiratory medicine responsibilities with a sub-specialty focus in Sleep & Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Participation in the Respiratory Consultant of the Week rota, providing daily inpatient care (Monday to Friday) and specialist advice to hospital teams.
- Contribution to the acute general medical rota, managing general medical admissions.
- Delivery of sub-specialty outpatient clinics and support for Sleep & NIV services.
- Attendance and contribution at local and cross-site Sleep and NIV MDTs with opportunities for collaborative working with other sites within Barts Health NHS Trust.
Consultants undertake inpatient work for one week in every nine, with remaining weeks focused on outpatient and specialist respiratory clinics within the Chest Clinic.
