The closing date is 06 April 2026

Job summary

Applications are welcome from those seeking a part-time contract. The role is predominantly based at Whipps Cross Hospital (and outpatient locations in the Waltham Forest & Redbridge borough) but the post-holder will be required to support our Tower Hamlets and Newham sites on a fairly regular basis.

Service cover is over 7 days and weekend working is required of all post-holders.

Would you like to make a difference to a baby and their family's lives?

We are looking for energetic, caring and self-motivated people to be part of delivering the front-line services of the Newborn Hearing Screening service in Barts Health.

The Audiology and Hearing Service provides hearing screening services to screen the hearing of all newborn babies across Barts Health. The successful candidate will join our team, based at the Maternity and Special Care Baby Units at our Hospitals including outpatient locations.

Your main duties will be to perform the Newborn Hearing Screen to all babies eligible for testing, within national protocols. Our service helps identify babies who may have a hearing loss, so that they can be referred for further testing and receive the appropriate early intervention where appropriate.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, experience in working with babies and must feel confident in working under pressure, as is the case in the busy Maternity environment.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme is to support the identification and babies with permanent childhood hearing impairment, enabling early intervention which is key to a child's social and psychological development and therefore more positive life outcomes.

The role of newborn hearing screener is to provide a family friendly service to new parents/care-givers in offering and explaining the screen, completing the screening process as per national and local protocols and assisting in the delivery of the service as whole alongside the teams that all work at Maternity and Community sites in Barts Health localities.
