We are recruiting for a Band 3 Receptionist, as outlined below. This is an excellent opportunity within a vibrant department for a motivated and proactive individual seeking to develop their knowledge and experience within the NHS and the field of Oncology.

Barts Health NHS Trust is the second-largest provider of cancer care in London and is internationally recognised for delivering high-quality cancer services. The Trust provides care for 1.5 million people across North-East London, as well as specialist services for patients from Essex and other regions of the UK. More than 5,500 new cancer cases are diagnosed and treated at Barts Health each year.

The Cancer Centre is based at St Bartholomew's Hospital, with networked cancer services delivered across all Barts Health sites. The Centre also encompasses Palliative Medicine, Breast Surgery, and Endocrinology Services. Based at St Bartholomew's Hospital and reporting to a Senior Operational Manager, you will join a dynamic team supporting both clinical and administrative staff to deliver high-quality, patient-centred services that promote excellent customer care and effective working relationships within our Chemotherapy Unit.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for welcoming patients, visitors, and staff; managing telephone enquiries; maintaining effective communication between patients and the multidisciplinary team; and escalating concerns to the shift leader as appropriate. Additional responsibilities include supporting ward management, maintaining accurate patient records, and booking appointments.

The post holder must ensure patient confidentiality at all times and comply with all relevant health and safety regulations and Trust policies, including those relating to risk management, safeguarding, and equal opportunities.

Administrative tasks will include processing healthcare records, coordinating patient transfers, updating Cerner records, managing discharge paperwork, and supporting the wider ward administration function.

Post holder must be willing to work one weekend a month paid an enhanced rate and a shared shift pattern of 8-4,9-5, 10-6 and 12-8 .
