Job summary
This is an exciting leadership role in paediatric obesity for an experienced Family Support Worker. The post holder will be the lead interface with community services, education, social services, housing and financial institutions across East and South London. The post holder will also train and supervise a team of family support workers, youth workers and health visitors across both Barts Health and Kings College Hospital. This post will include providing complex socio-economic and culture and diversity data to NHS England as part of the CEW national project.
We have recently been successful in our NHS England bid to provide a pioneering service to at least 50 children and young people/year with severe obesity in East London. We want to try new approaches, enhanced support and treatments whilst offering a tertiary level service providing expert management of this complex issue close to their homes and as an outpatient. The newly recruited team will involve consultants, dietetics, psychology, youth workers and a family support worker.
It will be a varied role working within both the acute and community settings. You will work closely with the children's services at our different sites, as well as schools and community teams throughout East London. You will be supporting children & and young people; and their families and carers.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a resource and crucial member of the Barts Health paediatric obesity team which provides treatment and support for children and young people with obesity and related complications.
The key purpose of the role is deliver high quality targeted family support to families of children accepted onto the Clinics for Excess Weight (CEW) project. The post holder's responsibilities will include- supporting families, providing parenting support, strengthening family relationships, advising on benefits that are available such as financial advice, support and access to other services. They will also be responsible for delivering group interventions for parents and young people when appropriate, in person and virtually.
The support will be provided in the home, community, hospital and virtual settings. The post holder will work collaboratively with the family, acute teams and any professional or voluntary services supporting the family and will be required to develop their knowledge about obesity and how it is managed in children.
