Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 2-year fixed term period for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to work within the Parkinsons Disease Team at Barts Health. You will be a reliable and constant member of the team, supporting patients and relatives through their whole care pathway, with particular focus on in patient care and providing advice and guidance for patients. You will be expected to develop close links with the Consultants, wards, multi-disciplinary teams and allied health professionals to deliver a high standard of care to our specialist patients. There will be components of education, practice development, audit & research to the role. We serve a diverse ethnic community being multilingual can definitely help foster better communication and build stronger relationships.

We are looking for a Registered Nurse, with experience in acute, neurosciences and/or experience in Parkinsons Disease. You will have experience of working autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as a track record of implementing improvements to patient care through skillful nursing practice.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has been developed to support the Parkinson's service in conjunction with the Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist and the team of Parkinson's Consultants to provide care and support to the patients within the Parkinson's service.

The Post holder will work in conjunction with the team to launch and deliver a twice weekly nurse led liaison ward round for all Parkinson's in-patients. Whilst the post is primarily inpatient-facing; the role will involve assisting with early supported discharge and linking into outpatient support within the available WTE."

The postholder is responsible for a caseload of patients allocated to the Specialist Service within the Trust. This includes delivering a nurse- led service, in conjunction with the team that can support outpatient and inpatient services in a tertiary Hospital setting.

The post holder should ensure the highest standard of Parkinson nursing care is delivered to patients and their families in partnership with all members of the MDT.

Contribute to the provision of specialist education for other health care professionals and research activities ensuring evidenced based practice in this specialist area.

The role demands high level communication skills, as well as the ability to deal with high levels of distress often displayed by patients and families. The candidate should be passionate in wanting to support a unique patient group with complex issues both as inpatient and outpatients.
