Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Dietitian to join the IBD team for a 1 year fixed term role.

The Adult IBD service at the Royal London is renowned for its expert knowledge and experience and has an outstanding team of 7 clinicians, 4 Adult and 2 Paediatric / Adolescent IBD specialist nurses and an IBD pharmacist who between them care for a cohort of 6,000 patients from all over East London and the South East. We have a pioneering transition service from paediatrics patients to adult services using a dedicated Adolescent clinic. In parallel to the clinical service is a world class research program in IBD based at the Blizard Institute, QMUL and includes dietary and nutritional research through collaborations with King's College London.

Main duties of the job

To provide a dietetic service to the Adult IBD team and meet the specification as detailed in the agreed SLA.

To provide a dietetic service to weekly consultant led IBD clinics, Adolescent transition clinic and inpatients

To provide specialist assessment, treatment and/or advice to in-patients

To work closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

To actively contribute to the development of the IBD service and the acute dietetic service.

To manage a coeliac and functional gastrointestinal outpatient clinic

To support and supervise dietetic staff

To support and provide training as required to the MDT

  • Qualification in area of specialisation or evidence of significant experience in speciality area

  • Extensive experience in the area of complex nutrition support (to include significant experience within the area of IBD)
  • Understanding of team dynamics and experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in developing a service and establishing/maintaining a dietetic presence within an MDT

Desirable

  • Experience in the management of patients with chronic health conditions including adolescent patients transitioning to adult services.
  • Experience in taking part in project work that supports improvement in service or supports a change in practice
  • Experience in working with other specialist Dietitians from other trusts to undertake service review/improvement

  • Ability to work effectively single handedly with individuals and group and deliver complex nutritional information
  • Ability to use behavioural change/ motivational interviewing techniques to facilitate change

  • Experience of delivering undergraduate student supervision and clinical education to postgraduate standard in area of speciality
  • Experience of supervision and line management of junior members of clinical staff
  • Able to undertake accurate anthropometric measurements eg. weights, heights, skinfold thickness to support the assessment of patients nutritional status
  • Able to interpret a variety of complex clinical information to make dietetic diagnosis in area of speciality
  • Regularly undertakes R&D activity eg. Critical Appraisal, Audit and is confident in the audit process
  • Ability to take own initiative and to be the lead for clinical speciality
  • Able to work with young adults and the understanding of their needs and priorities
  • Experience working with patients with long term health conditions and understanding of how to support patients with these diagnoses
