Phlebotomist with Paediatric Skills

Job summary

We require a paediatric-trained phlebotomist to join the Phlebotomy Service at the Royal London Hospital & Mile End Hospitals. Although the main duty will be to collect blood samples from paediatric patients, the successful candidate will also be expected to work in adult outpatient and inpatient areas across both sites, and the Mental Health Unit at Mile End Hospital.

Core working hours are 8.00am-6.00pm. Successful candidates are expected to be flexible in their working patterns to meet service demands. The shift pattern may include working approximately 1 in 4 weekends.

The requirements for these posts are:

  • Proven experience of adult and paediatric phlebotomy;
  • Good manual skills;
  • Good verbal and written command of the English language;
  • Good customer care skills;
  • Good attention to detail;
  • Basic biology knowledge;
  • Basic IT skills;
  • Compliance with all Trust policies including those relating to Infection Control, Health & Safety and Child Protection;
  • The ability to meet moving and handling requirements;
  • The ability to remain calm in a busy environment, to work as part of a team and without direct supervision, and to deal with patients in a sensitive manner.

Main duties of the job

To participate in the provision of a high quality phlebotomy service to paediatric and adult patients in all locations as required.

To manage and prioritise workload in various clinical areas.

To be involved in the training of other staff where appropriate.
