Locum ConsultantCellular Pathologist / Histopathologist with an interest in Gastrointestinal Pathology and Dermatopathology

Applications are invited for two new locum Consultant Cellular Pathologist / Histopathologist posts in the Department of Cellular Pathology at Barts Health NHS Trust. The posts are for a period of 12 months. One post is to provide Histopathology reporting within Upper and Lower Gastrointestinal Pathology including HPB and pancreas Pathology and non gynaecological cytology reporting. The second post is for Dermatopathology reporting. Both jobs are new posts with potential to become substantive at the end of the locum post.

The upheaval of COVID-19 has provided our consultant team with the opportunity to implement flexible working, both geographic and temporal, enabling us to deliver an efficient service in spite of the restrictions of lockdown. Going forward, we hope to retain and capitalise upon these changes which we feel allow us to maintain a healthy work-life balance whilst continuing to provide an excellent service for our users, both of which are major priorities for our Department. Our digital capabilities are expanding and we are in the process of implementing large volume slide scanning, remote frozen section macroscopy and reporting, and glass / paper free working.

Main duties of the job

The post is based in the state-of-the-art Pathology and Pharmacy building at the Royal London hospital in Whitechapel. Cellular pathology services are provided along specialist lines. The department provides a high quality service and the appointee will be a full and active member of the team.

Applicants are required to hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and to be on the GMC's Specialist Register or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential

  • MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent
  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

Experience

Essential

  • Thorough and broad training and experience in Histopathology and in Cytopathology
  • Ability to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of medical audit
  • Undertaken audit projects

  • Attendance at management course

  • Knowledge and experience of Cellular Pathology
  • Broad range of IT skills
