The post will support the work of Barts Health Foot & Ankle Unit, and the existing four fellowship trained Foot & Ankle Surgeons. The successful candidate will be fellowship trained and is expected to have experience in managing the breadth of elective foot and ankle surgery. Experience of diabetic foot & ankle conditions and total ankle arthroplasty is also desirable. They will also have experience of working within the major trauma centre (MTC) setting. They will be expected to contribute to the major trauma on call rota at The Royal London Hospital, one of Europe's busiest trauma centres and the On Call Rota at Whipps Cross Hospital. The ideal candidate will have experience of managing complex foot and ankle trauma, post-traumatic reconstruction and general high energy trauma. They will also support the Foot & Ankle trauma work within the specialist fragility fracture service at Whipps Cross Hospital.
Main duties of the job
1. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care
2. Leadership, development and organisation on the services in his/her charge in line with the Trusts business plans. Liaison and communication with the lead clinician, General Manager, Service Manager, Clinical Leads and Directors for Orthopaedic Surgery across the Trust, and the Surgery Board Chair.
3. A major contribution to the department's on-going efforts to improve efficiency in both the delivery and the management of patient care including the 18-week referral to treatment standard, reducing length of stay, meeting BOAST guidelines and managing the ratio of new to follow up outpatient attendances in line with commissioner expectations.
4. With the agreement of the Clinical Lead and Clinical Network Director, development of his/her own interests and specialisms within the speciality, including active participation in research programmes.
5. Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training including the approval and monitoring of on calls and locum appointments.
