Job summary

We are currently recruiting a Senior Dental Nurse fixed term for 10 months to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will work in our Dental Hospital in our undergraduate department in Whitechapel, providing nursing support to our undergraduate students. Hours of work will be 9am to 5.30pm with an hour for lunch. The post will be a split of 80/20 clinical and admin

Our new clinic is part of The Royal London Dental Hospital at Barts Health and is a leading specialist hospital for first-class dental and oral health care & provides clinical excellence in all aspects of dentistry. Barts Health currently has four sites: Whitechapel, Leytonstone, Stratford & Isle of Dogs. A new site will be opening in Hackney later in the year.

We are looking for well-motivated conscientious Dental Nurses who would enjoy the challenge of working alongside a wide range of professionals and multidisciplinary teams.

Candidates must have a good level of experience working as a band 4 Qualified Dental Nurse. Registration with the GDC is mandatory.

Previous experience of working within a Dental Hospital or similar setting, is desirable.

A Post Dental Qualification or keen interest to undergo training, would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

o To support and assist the Dental Nurse Manager in the day-to-day delivery of high-quality service provision within the department including deputising for the Dental Nurse Manager in their absence.

o Ensure the department is run efficiently and effectively and that all departmental needs are met.

o To provide high quality chairside support to all clinicians and ensure that the standard of all dental nursing care is of the highest order and in line with Trust Policies and Procedures.

o Support the Dental Nurse Manager in ensuring that both Qualified Dental Nurses and Student Dental Nurses undertake structured departmental practical training and Continuing Professional Development in line with current training curriculums and legislation.

o Provide direct line management to band 4 nurses including, sickness management, annual leave, appraisal, performance management and day to day management of their welfare.

o Carry out witness training and support trainees with their Record of Experience.

o Develop an in-depth knowledge of the department specialism.

o Champion service improvement for your clinical area.

o Responsibility for designated areas of clinical operations and other areas of activity as required.

o Provide support to the dental nurse managers in the recruitment process.

o Conduct infection control audits for your clinical area and act on findings.

o Carry out and upload hand hygiene audits.

o Act as first line contact for patients' complaints as necessary.
